Meggie wasn't herself lately. She was often agitated but nothing, including a treat, would satisfy her for long. Turned out she had a brain tumor. She started having terrible seizures. The wonderful folks at the Animal Hospital of Hinesburg did the best they could, staving off the inevitable with medications that held the seizures at bay for weeks. But Meggie was seldom her happy self. And then the seizures started again. That was it. The very hard but correct decision was made to put her out of her misery on February, 13, 2010.

Born April 22, 1999 in Underhill Center, VT, we adopted Megs from Kim Cook, her breeder. Meggie's mom was Scrapper, her dad Oobay and her litter mate, Cricket. Meggie's ten and three-quarter year existence represented a link to earlier times. She came to us less than a year into our move to Vermont. As a puppy she gave Wayne's elderly, fading dad some pleasure in a visit shortly before he passed away. Matthew, a junior at Ithaca at the time, delighted in Megs for the first of many visits home through the years. He labeled her "Freakazoid" and "Megnut" for her free-spirited behavior. Megs spent her life with our beloved animals that predeceased her: Bert, T.C., and her special friend, Bridgette. And then with her current mates, Bailey, Rufus and Gabby.

Megs had a great spirit, great appetite, was quite a leaper, a champion "nester" and was passionate about licking our faces and feet. While seldom a lap dog, she had her moments of snuggling up to us. She just loved the "Go 'way bad doggie!" game Wayne would play as he slowly came up the basement steps, repeatedly yelling that phrase. She'd carry on, stamping with a screeching bark at the top of the steps. And when he met her at the top, she'd get all wiggly as he gently petted her. Meggie will be greatly missed.
